Research Workshop*
A GLIMPSE INTO THE PRISON HOUSE
INSIGHTS FROM ARCHITECTURE AND CRIMINOLOGY

Taking the family as its social model and the family house as a reference, the Prison House is a genre that includes a range of homely small-scale facilities such as transition, halfway, youth, and detention houses. It is often understood as part of a new wave of reformism, neutralising the architecture of the monumental and institutionalised character of large prison complexes. But as it is far from an unproblematic phenomenon, this workshop aims at a critical discussion of the theories and ideas that ground the Prison House, gathering contributions from the field of architecture and criminology inside and outside academia.

Organized by Sabrina Puddu with the supervision of Martino Tattara and Kristel Beyens.
